Just Passing By

AND FINALLY.


The last photo of my vietnam trip (short? well yea, I totally narrowed out all the good photos) this one was as close as I could get to that iconic photo that I was searching for. This was at the palace in Hue. We were passing by a moat like chasm and I saw this lady walking about, meandering to her next destinations, eager to sell her piping hot goods to the next unsuspecting tourist.

And I asked myself....is this a profitable life? Perhaps its not demeaning to them, but to me it feels that when I am in a foreign place, I am left with the idea that every other tourist feels as if they are superior...because that have enough money to travel about on a leisure base, while the citizens of this place are oppressed by poverty and stringent, draconian laws.

All the more to wonder: do they profit from this life? This life of pandering to people who come with the mindset that they are superior and are here visiting this person's homeland as if it were a spectator sport, a cultural zoo of sorts.

then I smile and realize that while everyone who comes to vietnam is here to taste the local specialty......
